Millie Brenton has always been deeply committed to her community, and her journey reflects an inspiring story of dedication and resilience. Starting golf at the age of four, she was supported by many as she developed both as a golfer and as an individual. Now, at 17, she gives back by volunteering as a lead coach at Fox Hollow Golf Course’s junior program. Her contributions have been vital to the restructuring and enhancement of the program, demonstrating her natural leadership skills and dedication to youth development.
Karate has also played a significant role in Millie’s life. Millie started karate at age nine. Under the direction of Kyoshi Chris Golz at the East Hants Karate Club, her hard work and focus culminated in earning her Black Belt two years ago. Today, as an Assistant Sensei at her dojo, she mentors younger students, exemplifying discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
Millie’s dream of becoming an engineer was nurtured by her family, especially her Godfather, who inspired her to reach for Acadia University’s Engineering Program. Determined to enter the field of civil engineering, she hopes to become a role model for other young women aspiring to thrive in male-dominated fields.
Raised by a single mother, Millie has worked tirelessly to achieve academic excellence, consistently earning a 90% average and South Colchester Academy’s Honours with Distinction. Her story of determination and resilience, along with her impressive academic and community achievements, has made her the perfect recipient of the Canadian Chito-Ryu Karate-Do Association Post-Secondary Entrance Scholarship valued at $1,000.
Congratulations, Millie, on this well-deserved award!
